This Is Hilarious!! “Run This Town” Spoof
Sometimes you have to laugh at life and there’s nothing better than a parody starring a comedian poking fun at some of your favorite artists.
Affion Crockett, who is a comedic genius and impressionist portrays Kanye and Jay-Z in the video, as well as Chris Brown. Today the enormous viral Youtube video, directed by Michael Tiddes, went from Crockett’s Youtube subscribers, to Facebook users, to Twitter links, onto thousands of blog sites! It even garnered Chris Brown himself to retweet the link of the video by saying “Affion Crockett.. my big homie,” in humor of course. With all the media attention and celebrities talking about it, including Perez Hilton’s tweet titled “Hunt Chris Brown,” it has definitely supported that there is a need and space to put sketch comedic parody back on the map.
As the comedic break out star on MTV’s Wild’n Out and Short Circuitz with Nick Cannon, both shows delivering spoofs and comedic improvisational battles. Affion never fails to deliver, so don’t be surprised if another video comes out next week. For more videos, please visit Affion’s Youtube channel at www.youtube.com/affioncrockett
This week new artists with new videos have been on FIRE from the fun yet spunky “Dollhouse” from Priscilla Renea and the sultry and raw “If It Kills” from Melanie Fiona, new female artists are making noise.
After Michael Jackson passed everyone claimed that we (his fans and peers) let him down by not being there for him or not believing in him. I can’t say that I identifiy with claims that I was not there for Michael Jackson because I don’t recall poking fun of him or any of his allegations. I have always embraced him and his talent so I refuse to group myself with the people who claim that MJ was abandoned by so many people.
I’ll admit when I first heard Tyler Wood’s single “Prove Myself” I had mixed feelings. While I love the soulful twang, something about the song was a little awkward. This morning while watching BET J, another one of his singles came on “Slow Jams”. I have to admit I am feeling this much more but listening to the second single prompted me to listen to the first single again, and all I can say is some things are better the second time around because now I’m feeling both. Produced by 9th Wonder, Tyler’s song are original and for that I can truly appreciate what he has to offer, so today’s Rhythmic Discovery is dedicated to Tyler Woods.
If you’re like me, you may have been a tad bit slow to get Ledisi’s new album, Turn Me Loose. However, shame on you if you haven’t gotten it yet. In this video Ledisi states, “that’s the whole point about this album, to be free, totally turn it up” when describing what many consider her best piece of work. Working with various producers and writers like Raphael Saadiq, Rex Rideout, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and others has definitely worked in her favor as she tried new sounds in a non restrictive nature. After watching this video, I advise that you run out and get this album. It’s a gem and so refreshing.

The legendary
I am so feeling “Travelin’ Girl” from Soul Singer, Dwele’s lastest studio album, Sketches Of A Man. Add the live instruments and the obvious sexisoulness and you have a very nice video that is definitely worthy of repeating a couple of times over. Oh and did I mention that not only is he from Detroit but he’s a zodiac twin. (My bday is Feb. 13th, his is the 14th) No wonder I like him so much!
If you are not familiar with Amanda Diva, I feel bad for you. It’s not that she’s some A list celebrity who’s saturating the airwaves or anything so if she’s been under your radar, I understand. The thing I like about this chick is that she’s an individual….a creative one at that. Being an individual is enough for me to take notice. In The video for “Neon” feat. Johnny Polygon, the first single off of Amanda Diva’s “Spandex, Rhymes, & Soul, Amanda is just doing her thang on her own terms and for that I say “You Go Girl”.
So far I’m really feeling everything Kid Cudi has released, so yes, I will purchase his album and so should you. Check out the second single ‘Make Her Say’ from his debut album Man On The Moon: End Of Day in stores September 15th. This single features Kanye West and Common.
