India.ArieTestimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics

india-arie-newIf music has a conscious, her name is India. Arie. Since the beginning of her career she has made it okay to use your voice to inspire others by infusing thought provoking lyrics and guitar riffs full of soul. Everything that’s viewed as negative in mainstream media, she unapologetically embraces. From her brown skin to her proclamation that her hair does not define her, she is an advocate for positive inspiration.

Her fourth album Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics stays true to her blend of folk and soul music as she addresses taboo subjects.  As she takes listeners on a spiritual journey, Musiq Soulchild, MC Lyte, Gramps Morgan and Turkey’s Sezen Aksu along with her. On this album expect her signature melodic grooves on “Chocolate High” which is her lead off single. “Therapy”, her second single is another favorite along with “Yellow” and “The Long Goodbye”.

While this is not India’s best album, I commend her for using her voice to open the eyes of people around the world. Even if you’re not a fan of the album, listen to the lyrics and I’m positive you will get something from this India. Arie experience.
